Recent developments in the Middle East indicate a significant increase in tensions among countries in the region. In recent weeks, incidents and new alliances have emerged, shaking already fragile regional stability. One of the main flashpoints is the long-standing conflict between Israel and Palestine, which has resurfaced with sporadic attacks in the Gaza Strip. The Hamas group recently launched rocket attacks towards Israel in response to Israeli military operations targeting their infrastructure. This situation caused international condemnation and worsened relations between the two parties. The UN and almost all countries in the world called on both parties to exercise restraint and return to the negotiating table. On the other hand, tensions are also increasing between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Diplomatic meetings in Riyadh and Tehran have failed to produce a meaningful solution regarding the strength of Iran’s influence in the region, especially in countries such as Iraq and Yemen. In response, Saudi Arabia strengthened defensive cooperation with the United States, while Iran sought to increase its military capabilities with technological assistance from Russia. Furthermore, the presence of extremist groups in Syria and Iraq continues to be a threat. ISIS is still active even though it has lost territorial strength, and reports from various intelligence agencies indicate that it is planning new attacks. This is further complicated by the influence of Türkiye which is implementing military operations in Northern Syria to tackle the threat from Kurdish groups which they consider to be terrorists. Apart from the military aspect, the socio-economic impact is also felt by the civilian population in this region. International blockades and sanctions against certain countries add to the burden on people’s daily lives, triggering a deep humanitarian crisis. Children in conflict areas grow up without access to proper education and face serious health risks due to a lack of medical facilities. Social media also plays an important role in disseminating information and propaganda in the region. Digital platforms are becoming a new battlefield between various parties who are trying to justify their actions and discredit opponents. This adds complexity in understanding the reality of the ongoing conflict. With all these factors, tensions in the Middle East appear increasingly difficult to reduce. International powers must be more involved in finding a peaceful solution. Diplomatic weapons become especially important at a time when tensions are increasing, and collaborative initiatives among regional countries are needed to create sustainable stability. However, until now, these efforts are still hampered by the conflicting interests of each country.
